Jazz is a wonderfully diverse pleasure.

There's a rich diversity to Jazz that stands alone amongst musical genres. Jazz seems to take on the personality of everyone that has touched it. The best Jazz has a patina just as you would expect from the finest antiques. A layer of age, first added by the recording musicians, their production technicians and advertising companies, and then steadily improved by every listener that has absorbed its quality.

In Jazz we find a common denominator that moves our bodies in time with the earthy, primeval rhythms. We revel in the voice like meanderings of the clarinets and saxophones, the drum beats force our hearts to keep pace and guttural squeals from the horn section remind us that we all come from the earth and that we all return there someday.

The pursuit of Jazz knowledge is something of a life's work. It will never be complete as long as there are opinions in the world. The best we can hope for is to appreciate the gradual absorption that comes with those lazy hours of musical pleasure and enjoy the conversation that ensues after listening, jointly, to those Jazz recordings that make you hair stand to attention.
